Card of the Month: Sangan

I bet everyone was surprised by the March Ban List due to it not hitting much and being a short one at that. I know we were all expecting to see Konami splash acid on Wind-ups' retarded face and yes, we had our wish everyone so congratulations!!! No more retard as fug Wind-ups.

Now, we know that Wind-ups were the only one hit in this ban list by completely banning Zenmighty and limiting WU Magician, but it also killed one of the most expensive engine in the game, the TGU + Sangan engine. So, with the banning of Sangan for the March format, what will happen now that one the greatest and abused searcher is gone and is now back in the arms of his beloved spouse(Witch of the Black Forest) in the Ban Zone of YGO.

For this week, our Card of the Week is none other than the great Sangan

DARK / Fiend / Level 3 / 1000/600
"When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: Add 1 monster with 1500 or less ATK from your Deck to your hand."

Now, we all know Sangan is a great li'l monster that we all set on the field(unless opponent has 1000LP and there's no card on field so we actually summon it to add insult to injury). It is an abused generic searcher that hooks all your 1500ATK and below monster such as Hornet, Damsel, Trooper, Debris, and your beloved hand traps. It makes it easier for a player to search those key combo cards or those follow-up cards for the next turn. The fact that your opponent knows one of your cards in hand adds pressure to the opponent.

Except for its effect, Sangan is also a noteworthy DARK and Fiend-type monster(yes, it can be splashed in DW :D). It's a great addition to the arsenal of chaos decks such as Chaos Dragons, Zombies and Chaosworns. It tutors the 3 decks' common card named Ryko(an out to almost anything). Remember that it's a chaos deck we're talking about, so after searching for a card, you can banish it along with a light monster to SS a chaos monster, preferably BLS since it's still usable so might as well enjoy it while we can.

With revival supports, Sangan can be abused to keep on searching those puny monsters that you need. Imagine that it just got destroyed in battle during your opponent's turn, after searching a card, activate Limit Reverse and switch it to defense position during your turn to search another card that you can summon in that same turn. Or perhaps you activate Heavy Storm then chain Call of the Haunted to revive Sangan. Since a chain works backwards you get to search when Heavy Storm resolves.

First, I used the OCG name because I find it cute. Now, TGU is maybe Sangan's second wife, if the other one is in the deck, you can be rest assured that the other one can get it for you. To put simply, Sangan searches TGU, TGU summon Sangan, aren't they the perfect couple. But Sangan's first wife, Witch of the Black Forest, found out about their affair and decided to take her husband back to take care of their child Sanwitch for the next format, ending Sangan and TGU's love affair. And that is how Sangan got banned.

Well, these 2 monsters are searchable by Sangan. It is my brother's 3 favorite cards in his Chaos Dragon deck. If Card Gunner is already in the graveyard, Sangan searches for Debris Dragon, summon Debris, SS Card Gunner, use Gunner effect since it's a cost and Debris doesn't negate costs, wish that you mill LIGHTs and DARKs, Synchro to Black Rose Dragon, activate Black Rose effect, then if the graveyard is ready, summon chaos monsters and/or DAD to finish your opponent.

Now that Sangan is gone, what will its effect be in YGO, we still cannot say how it will turn out for only time can tell.
